Chronology of cameras Ginrei
The Vester Klapp is a well built strut folding camera, made by Ginrei, the photographic division of the company G.R.C. Gomei in Japan. This specimen, one of the rare known, is the model D. A second model called H is only known from period adverts.
The camera is evidently inspired by the Ernemann klapp, namely the optical viewfinder and the general appearance. However it has interesting specific characteristics.
The disc around the lens has the function of helical focus, and not merely to serve as grip for opening the camera as in the Ernemann klapp. This feature is also sen in the Camerabau Frankfurt klapp, although there is apparently no relation between these companies.
The body is fully metal and covered in leatherette, and the camera is designed for 6.5 x 9 plates. It was made between circa 1931 and 1936, advertised on the Asahi Camera and Ars Camera magazines. The camera is shown on Sugiyama book under no. 1259.
The focal plane shutter delivers speeds between 1/10 to 1/500 plus B. On the shutter side there is a table of depth-of-field. The default lens is the Fuji Optical Work Anastigmat Vengor of focal length of 105mm and maximum aperture of 4.5. It could be fitted also with a Zeiss Tessar lens.
